It Started with a Promise
To outsiders, Chelsea and her older sister, Sieara, may not have seemed close. They had almost no photos together on social media and were almost never seen together. Despite appearances, they spoke to one another quite often. Before the passing of her sister, Chelsea had always made a promise to her: to lookout for her children.
Two years after her death, Chelsea was still struggling to find a way to honor her older sister. She thought long and hard about what would best suit her sister’s life, refusing to let her death—due to mental health complexities that ultimately led to alcohol abuse dependency—overshadow the life she lived.
Thinking about the best way to honor her, she looked to her sister’s surviving children, Olivea and Julyan, whose childhood nicknames Livie (Olivea) and Papi (Julyan) inspired the company’s name. Originally, Chelsea intended to name the brand Papi + Livie. However, while looking through her past web designs, she came across a "fake" brand she had created years before her sister’s death: Poppy + Lily + Herb.
It struck her then—she had created a brand with nicknames nearly identical to her sister's children long before she knew she would need it. Even the last name, Herb, served as a tribute to her sister’s daughter Harmony, who passed away due to SIDS at only six months old. She took this as a undeniable sign and ran with it.
